Free Computers for Needy Folks

UPDATE: We need a not-for-profit organization to help us send these PC’s to a good home. We don’t want to donate them the a company that will just turn around and sell them. We want them to be given to people that could really use a free computer. The computers are older and will work perfectly for a starter PC or even a family PC. One of the problems that we are running into is legal responsibility if someone misuses the PC or if the PC was to damage someone’s (overheating power supply). Basically we need a buffer. If you know of a worthy organization please leave a comment here or tweet us @justusleeg

Do you know anyone that is deserving of a free computer? Maybe a single mom that needs one for job searches. Maybe a student that needs one for studying and playing WOW, but his family can’t afford one. Maybe a friend that is down on their luck. We don’t judge.

The JUL is going to be giving out free older computers to needy folks in Ktown (and surrounding areas). They will be loaded with Ubuntu and a full office suite plus all of the amenities. Drop a comment here and let us know what we can do to give back to the community!

Got any older computers or hardware that you want to donate to the cause? Do the same! As long as it can run a 32 bit system we will handle the rest. Need to clean your hard drive first? We can help with that, or try this. We will pick up within reason.

What about some place like Helen Ross McNabb? They might be good buffers for this and could give the computers to the right people. I can put you in touch with someone at Helen Ross McNabb or several other places that might need the computers. Let me know.

I have a few hundred 7′ patch cables, telephone cables, and USB cables left over from a job that I can donate if they can be used.

That would be great! I am in the process of getting everything together in one place and people will be able to drop off parts, do a little work, or deliver computers. Will post details when I get a chance.
