Based on Audrey Niffenegger’s novel of the same name, “The Time Traveler’s Wife” was considered a hot commodity before the book even made its way to the public. Then Hollywood power couple Jennifer Aniston and Brad Pitt generated quite a bit of buzz for the title when they bought the film rights to the novel while it was still an unfinished work. The book has been described as part romance, part science-fiction, and part drama and tackles such issues as love, loss, and the question of free will. These many years, and quite a few director’s later, it is finally making its way to film with only Pitt retaining a production credit.
The movie, directed by Robert Schwentke, stars Rachel McAdams and Eric Bana as the title characters and is literally the story of a woman married to a man who has a genetic disorder which causes him to time travel unpredictably. She then must deal with his sudden disappearances and long absences. The story registers on geek radar because of the time-travel slant, and let’s hope they’ve done a better job here than 2002′s “The Time Machine” (which also figured largely around a time traveling man who went back in time in hopes of saving his deceased wife). It looks like it’s going to be an entertaining film with elements of both science fiction and romance. “Somewhere in Time” anyone? Check out the trailer below.
