Since the mega-popularity explosion of micro-blogging service twitter, it’s no surprise that similar services geared to more specific groups and interests are starting to spring up.  The newest on the block is a service called Torrent Twitter and it is exactly what it sounds like.  It is a very “twitter-esque” micro-blogging service that allows its users to post about torrents, and more specifically what may be newly available for download at any given time.  And just like Twitter, your followers are notified immediately when something new is posted.

You can also break followers into groups based on whatever criteria you see fit.  For example, you can have a group of followers devoted to a particular director’s work or a specific television series and, whenever something new is posted that applies to that group, everyone is notified at the same time.  Torrent Twitter is described by its makers as a “niche twitter” and it is speculated that, with enough users, “it could become a user generated meta-search engine for torrent files.” Check out what torrentfreak.com has to say about it here, or just go straight to the source and check it out for yourself.  This could very well result in desired BitTorrent files coming straight to you, as opposed to the long standing hunt and gather approach.
