After much anticipation the second movie in the Twilight series, New Moon, hit theaters for mass release on Thursday 11/20/09 at midnight.   I was not one of the people willing to sacrifice their sleep to get the first glimpse of the movie, however, I was also not willing to wait very long to indulge myself either.

I was lucky enough to get in just under the wire for a showing of the movie Friday night and I admit that I was looking forward to it.  I have read, and enjoyed, all of the books and was fond of the first movie, so I was eager to see what the new director, Chris Weitz, would be able to dream up to keep the audiences interested in the “saga”.

Simply put, I loved this movie.  And I don’t feel a need to apologize for that.   I am a hopeless romantic, so I fully expected to enjoy the Bella/Edward/Jacob triangle – and I was not disappointed.   I also completely loved the sense of humor and the action and special effects.  There is a great mix of gushy, angst-riddled teenage love and testosterone infused action and effects.

Chris Weitz and screenplay writer Melissa Rosenberg have created an offering that will satisfy die hard fans and still entertain the husbands, boyfriends and friends that are there in support of a die hard fan.

It was refreshing for me to see the movie follow the storyline from the book so accurately, up to and including the end of the movie.  So often writers, directors and producers are so desperate to put their own interpretation on a well-known book adaptation that they lose sight of the story that made the book so popular.

This isn’t Shakespeare and will never win an Academy Award, but it is great fun to watch and if you are a fan of this phenomenon, you should enjoy this movie.  I was fully entertained for the entire length of the movie.
