There is a movement afoot, to make Hella the new SI prefix (US) for 10^27, coming after Yotta. Austin Sendek, from the UC Davis Physics Dept. said:

“The number of atoms in 120 kg of carbon-12 would be simplified from 6,000 yottaatoms to 6 hellaatoms. Similarly, the sun (mass of 2.2 hellatons) would release energy at 0.3 hellawatts, rather than 300 yottawatts.”

I think that is simply, hella-cool. You can show your support by going to their facebook fan page here, and you can also get shirts for the cause here.

One question does come to mind though. What will come after a Hellabyte? A Jesubyte?

The next prefix should be crap-, so that “a metric crap-ton” would actually be a real measurement.

I have been saying this since at least 2006, hella being so very… I mean, hella Bay Area, where I live. Glad to see the dream is gaining momentum.
